Equity Measures Campaign

Having made gains for equity in the Minneapolis Public School District, the EEOC is now focused on building racial, cultural and economic equity at the state level. Specifically, the current goal of the EEOC is to see the Minnesota Department of Education adopt a set of equity standards and benchmarks that truly place equity at the center of excellence for all Minnesota students.

The Commissioner of Education Commits to Education Equity

On June 12th, 2011, OAP held its first Racial Equity Gathering where Dr. Brenda Cassellius, Minnesota’s Commissioner of Education, publicly committed herself, her team and Governor Dayton to achieving equity in Minnesota. This commitment included 3 tenants:

  1. The MN Department of Education and the Dayton administration commit to equity being in the center of its excellence goals and measures.
  2. The Department of Education will adopt racial equity, economic and gender equity principles and practices in the Department of Education’s own work
  3. Commissioner Cassellius and her team will actively partner with the EEOC over the next year to develop a system for taking equity practices and principles into the schools and districts themselves and for publicly measuring and rewarding progress towards equity practice in schools.
