Dear Ally for Racial Equity,

In these tough times, fear can get the better of us.  It can result in anger and isolationism.  Fear can destroy compassion.  It can distort reality.

This is the reality:  communities of color are facing the highest unemployment rates seen in three decades. The Twin Cities is home to the highest black-white unemployment disparity in the nation. And due to the Great Recession, black and Hispanic communities have seen their wealth fall three and four times further than white communities.  The recession has brought many people down, but its weight has been greatest on communities of color.

What if we answered this reality with action rather than fear?

The Organizing Apprenticeship Project (OAP) is doing just that.  We are building power and finding long-term solutions to these problems. We are preparing the next generation of leaders through our community organizer training class. We’re convening people together, for stronger communities, stronger networks, and a stronger state. We’re producing policy briefs featuring solutions from community experts.  We are holding policymakers accountable for actions that dismantle equity, while shining a light on efforts to build racial justice.  We convene and assist the Education Equity Organizing Collaborative to advance equitable education for our children. We are  working to close the gaps between Minnesota’s white communities and communities of color.
